Medical Ethics - May 1, 2025

Congregation Beth Israel Presents a Medical Ethics Talk:

Reproduction, Law, and Technology: A Jewish Perspective

As reproductive technologies advance, Jewish law (Halakha) faces new ethical challenges in navigating practices like artificial insemination, IVF, genetics, surrogacy, egg/embryo donation, and postmortem parenting. This talk will focus on how Halakha crafts solutions within the framework of Jewish bioethics, balancing tradition with modern medical possibilities. We’ll explore the Halakhic perspectives on key issues such as determining biological parenthood, the sanctity of life, and the role of genetic and social connections in reproduction. For healthcare professionals, understanding the intricacies of Halakha can provide vital insight into the ethical dilemmas patients may encounter.
